of seven hours

Today we continued doing our 930 am routine. We had the cab driver drop us off near the Puerta of Alcala. We walked down to the Cibeles fountain, the post office building, and then took the Prado road past the Ritz Hotel to the Prado Museum. We stopped at a beautifully decorated patisserie, and had some delicious macaroons. Apricot!!! Lemon!!! Heaven!!!  

The Prado museum opened at 10 am. We walked in at 1015 or so. We were in the museum til 5 o'clock. We saw fifty masterpiece works of art, among thousands of other pieces of artwork that dated as far back as 20 ac!!!  The museum was busy, but not as busy as it could have been. It still baffles me that it took us seven hours to walk through the Prado. I was only given 45 minutes on my last trip. I am so thankful for being able to see things like Sorolla's kids on the beach, or Goya's parasol. I am humbled that I had the opportunity to visit a second time. 

After the Prado, we walked up the calle de Huertas all the way to the Plaza Mayor. We had been dreaming of having food at the Mercado de San Miguel we discovered on Monday. We enjoyed some sangria, tapas made out of mozzarella, olives, paella and leche merengada ice cream. 

We raised our hand for a cab, and arrived back at our hotel at 8 pm. Tomorrow, off to Toledo and Cordoba!!!!
